Waiting Gate

As I sit at the airport, I see people rushing by. Some were sprinting to catch flights, while others calmly sipped coffee, boarding passes tucked neatly into their pockets. The loudspeaker echoed names and destinations, and the shuffle of luggage wheels filled the space. I found myself in that strange in-between place. Not where I had been, but not yet where I was going. Anticipating what’s to come. Waiting.

There’s something sacred about airports. They are full of motion, yet built for waiting. Every gate holds a promise of somewhere else. New beginnings, reunions, opportunities, and sometimes, painful goodbyes. And in that paradox, there is a strange stillness. You are surrounded by movement, yet grounded where you are. The world feels like it’s racing forward, and you’re just… sitting there. Watching. Wondering when it’ll be your turn. And somewhere in the quiet, God whispered to me: “You’re not stuck. You are being stationed.”

That word pierced me, and I felt it in my bones. Lately, life has felt like a long layover. Dreams delayed, prayers unanswered, plans rerouted. I had been asking God why He hadn’t let me “take off” yet. But maybe, just maybe, the waiting room is part of the flight plan.

In the airport, the waiting area isn’t wasted space; it’s essential. It’s where travelers gather their belongings, charge their devices, check their tickets, and prepare for what’s next. Spiritually, it’s no different. The waiting seasons of life are where God strengthens your faith, aligns your heart, and readies your spirit for the journey ahead. The pause is not punishment; it is preparation.

As I sat, staring out the window at the gate, I thought of Isaiah 40:31: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

The word wait here doesn’t mean to sit idly. It means to trust, to hope, to remain expectant. Waiting is not passive. It is surrender. It is sitting in the waiting room with God, not just waiting for Him. And waiting isn’t wasted when it leads you deeper into His presence. Maybe, like me, you are sitting at a gate in your life. Watching others board their dreams while you clutch your ticket, wondering when it’ll be your turn.

Don’t lose heart. God hasn’t forgotten your flight. When the time is right, the doors will open. The boarding call will come. And you will see that every moment of waiting was worth it, because the same God who called you to this gate will carry you safely to your destination.

Until then:
Breathe.
Gather your strength.
Trust the timing.
And know this: God is still in control of your flight path.
